EVC Mode between AMD Gen 3, Gen 3 (Without 3D Now), and Gen 4

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to better understand how to "read" the VMware Compatibility Guide: cpu results.

IHAC that holds 2xDell PowerEdge R805 with AMD 2423 HE, 2xDell PowerEdge M905 with AMD 8384 and 4x Dell PowerEdge M915 with AMD 6238. All of it inside a EVC Cluster Environment. He wants to add a couple of PowerEdge R715 with AMD 6366 HE.

I've noticed that AMD 2423 HE and AMD 8384 are Gen 3 CPU, and AMD 6238 is Gen 4 CPU (aka Bulldozer Generation).

First question:

I don't understood if 6300 Opteron (aka Piledriver Generation) have to be considered as Gen 4 CPU like 3200, 4200 and 6200 or not.

Second point: If I choose "AMD Opteron 6300" under "CPU series", and under "EVC Modes" I choose the option "All", the results I got is:

EVC ModesAMD Opteron™ Generation 3 without 3DNow!AMD Opteron™ Generation 4
AMD Opteron 6300 Series

But If I choose "All" under "CPU series", and under "EVC Modes" I choose the option "AMD Opteron Generation 4" (3200, 4200, 6200 of course, and probably 6300???) the results I got is:

EVC Modes

AMD Opteron™ Generation 4

AMD Opteron 4200 Series

AMD Opteron 6200 Series

AMD Opteron 6300 Series

AMD Opteron 4300 Series

AMD Opteron 3200 Series

AMD Opteron 3300 Series

Second question is:

Are Opteron 6300 Piledriver CPU compatible in a EVC Cluster Environment with older 2400 and 8300 Gen 3 AMD CPU?

Thank you for the support.

Cheers

Pier Francesco
