The post doesn't have a solution yet indeed as the final test with hooking up a 2nd display still has to be run by the original poster.

It is easy to read over details, but it was 3am down here when I replied so wasn't much into writing out a lot of details so just gave a pointer.

 

Can you rerun the Windows Experience Index? If for your case it also returns a performance index of 1 due to the graphic acceleration being returned a 1 then I think a part of your driver files are missing.

 

The Windows Experience index can be found via: Start Menu -> Right click on Computer and select Properties -> Click on Windows experience index -> Re-run the assessment.

Wait for the results.

 

VMware Tools nowadays has its UI disabled, but there's an installer that you can invoke from the OS X side. In your "Virtual Machine" drop down menu there's an option "Reinstall VMware Tools". Part of that installation does install virtual machine hardware related drivers into your Windows.
