So having upgraded to the Essentials plus I was very excited to look at shared storage options. My plan is to buy 2 new HP Gen 8 servers with a lot of onboard disk and cluster them.
So I am well on my way. I am looking at 2 HP DL 380 servers with 8 1TB SAS drives each. I was considering having the ESXi software running on it own set of smaller 300 gig SAS drives which would be mirrored.
The thought is that this will allow the servers to run more efficiently not dealing with the shared storage.
I can not find anywhere what is recommended setting up the physical server. It is correct to set up a small mirror as the boot partition? Then let the Virtual Storage appliance use the rest of disks as the shared storage? Is raid 5 suitable for the shared storage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
