Hi again roybad!  I work on developing our virtual EFI firmware here at VMware, so I try to keep an eye out for issues like yours.

Centos 6.3 and newer should be OK, as long as you're using the 64-bit version.  The 32-bit versions have no EFI support, and the 64-bit versions prior to 6.3 had broken EFI support and won't work in a VMware EFI VM.

You said that you "... couldn't get the Centos installer CD to boot when I selected EFI".  Did you install with BIOS and try to switch to EFI later?  That generally won't work, because the OS has to perform partitioning and prepare the bootloader in a manner specific to the type of firmware: If it's installed through BIOS, it'll prepare the disk to be booted from BIOS, not for EFI.  If you're using CentOS 6.3 or newer, it should be possible to boot the installer using EFI firmware.

Not sure whether I accept your claim that the plural of Linux is Linux... But I adamantly maintain that the plural of mouse is meece.

Cheers,

Darius
